GENERAL CONDITIONS FOR FOREIGNERS ENROLLING IN STUDIES

– For first-cycle or uniform master's studies, candidates who: hold a Polish maturity certificate or a legalized or apostilled certificate or another document obtained abroad, entitling them to apply for admission to studies at institutions of any type in the country where the issuing institution operated, recognized in accordance with regulations or based on international agreements as equivalent to the corresponding Polish maturity certificate.

– For second-cycle studies, individuals who hold a diploma from first-cycle studies completed in Poland or a legalized or apostilled diploma or another document attesting to the completion of higher education abroad, entitling them to pursue second-cycle studies in the country where it was issued, recognized – in accordance with regulations or based on an international agreement – as equivalent to the relevant Polish diploma for completing first-cycle studies.

School certificates (maturity certificates)/higher education diplomas must be legalized, translated, and recognized in Poland as equivalent to the corresponding Polish certificate/diploma.

For first-cycle studies and uniform master's studies:

Personal questionnaire - generated with a photo in SIRK and printed at the University Admissions Office.

Certificate of maturity – maturity certificates/IB diploma/EB diploma or another certificate obtained outside the Republic of Poland entitling the holder to apply for admission to higher education in the country of issue, along with the original for inspection, recognized in Poland by law or based on an international agreement, or through administrative proceedings of the education curator;

Legalization or apostille of foreign certificates obtained outside Poland (except for IB and EB diplomas) is required.

Current photo - photo requirements:
– File in .jpg format, dimensions 237 x 297 pixels or larger,
– Maximum file size 2 MB,
– Photo taken on a uniform, clear background with good sharpness, reflecting the natural skin color (color photo), encompassing the image from the top of the head to the upper part of the shoulders, so that the face occupies 70-80% of the photograph, clearly showing the eyes, especially the pupils, and depicting the person in a frontal position, without headgear and glasses with dark lenses, looking straight ahead with open eyes unobstructed by hair, with a natural facial expression, and closed mouth.
– Maximum resolution 90-150 dpi.

In case of admission to studies, the photo and data provided during registration will be placed on the electronic student ID (ELS).

Passport or EU identity card - During enrollment, the candidate must confirm their identity by presenting an identification document (passport or, for European Union citizens, an EU identity card).

Document entitling to study without fees:
– Passport or ID card of a EU, EFTA, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland citizen, or their family members residing in the territory of the Republic of Poland.
– Permanent residence permit.
– Long-term resident's European Union residence permit.
– Refugee status granted in the Republic of Poland.
– Confirmation of temporary protection.
– Confirmation of supplementary protection on the territory of the Republic of Poland.
– Certificate attesting proficiency in the Polish language as a foreign language, issued by the State Commission for the Certification of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language, at least at the C1 language proficiency level.
– Valid Polish Charter or a decision granting it, not older than 3 months.
– Decision regarding the determination of Polish origin issued by the embassy/consulate of the Republic of Poland.
– Confirmation of being a spouse, ascendant, or descendant of a citizen of the Republic of Poland residing in the territory of the Republic of Poland.
– Decision on a temporary residence permit - due to circumstances specified in Art. 159(1) or Art. 186(1)(3) or (4) of the Act of 12 December 2013 on Foreigners, along with the card.

Other conditions:
Foreigners can undertake studies if they:
– Have a visa or residence card or another document entitling them to stay in Poland.
– Have health insurance covering the period of education in Poland for illness or accidents, or possess the European Health Insurance Card. They can also join the health insurance system of the National Health Fund immediately after starting their education.

Note!
Every student is required to have valid health insurance during their stay in Poland. Students from EU and EFTA countries are entitled to free use of certain medical services provided they have the European Health Insurance Card or a Substitute Certificate (EKUZ). Students from non-EU and non-EFTA countries are advised to purchase private health insurance in their home country or in Poland. In the absence of insurance, medical services are paid. Medical certificate (applies only to candidates for the Nursing program) - a medical certificate from an occupational health service stating that there are no contraindications to studying in the chosen field of study (issued based on a referral from the University) - applies only to candidates for the Nursing and Medical Rescue program.

Certificate of proficiency in Polish:

A candidate holding a foreign high school diploma, IB diploma, EB diploma, or a diploma from foreign higher education can undertake studies if they confirm proficiency in the Polish language at least at level B2. They can enroll in studies in Polish if they are in one of the following situations:
– Completed a one-year preparatory course for studying in Polish at an institution selected through a tender by the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) or previously designated by the minister responsible for higher education, at least at the B2 language proficiency level - Certification - NAWA.
– Possess a certificate of proficiency in the Polish language confirming proficiency at least at the B2 language proficiency level, issued by the State Commission for Certifying Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language (Link to another page).
– Have a high school diploma or a higher education diploma issued upon completion of education in Polish in the education system of the Republic of Poland, with the reservation of Article 326(3) of the Law on Higher Education and Science.

– Have a high school diploma or a higher education diploma issued upon completion.

– Have the result of the Polish language exam on the IB or EB diploma.

Other documents to be submitted:
Administrative decision issued by the relevant Education Curator confirming the recognition of a foreign diploma as equivalent to the Polish maturity certificate.
This document applies only to candidates whose diploma cannot be recognized by law.

Decision of the NAWA director - individuals who undertake studies as scholarship holders of NAWA programs, in case of receiving a positive scholarship decision, should provide a copy of the decision. The lack of a decision may result in the obligation to pay tuition fees in the absence of other grounds for studying free of charge.

Underage candidates - individuals who, when submitting documents for studies, are not yet 18 years old, additionally submit documents such as a birth certificate (with translation) and a parent's declaration regarding consent to undertake studies.

Certified translation of all documents prepared in a language other than the language of instruction - For studies conducted in Polish, all documents prepared in a language other than Polish should be translated into Polish by:
– a Polish sworn translator (registered on the list of sworn translators of the Polish Ministry of Justice);
– a sworn translator from the EU (if there is an institution of sworn translators in a given country);
– the consul of the Republic of Poland responsible for the country in which the document was issued;
– an accredited diplomatic representation or consular office of the country in which the document was issued.

The translation can be done by a translation agency, but then it should be certified by a Polish diplomatic mission or a sworn translator. If the diploma's legality is certified by an apostille, this document should also be translated.

Power of attorney - A candidate who cannot personally enroll in studies can appoint a proxy to submit documents on their behalf.

Underage candidates - Individuals who, when submitting documents for studies, are not yet 18 years old, additionally submit documents such as a birth certificate (with translation) and a parent's declaration regarding consent to undertake studies.

For second-cycle studies:

Personal questionnaire - Generated with SIRK, printed at the University Recruitment Office, including a photo.

Diploma with supplement - Original or authenticated copy of the diploma with a supplement, allowing for continuation of studies at the desired degree level in the country of issuance.If the candidate has completed studies and passed all exams, waiting for the diploma, they can present a certificate issued by the university confirming the eligibility for second-cycle studies in the country where the institution operates. The certificate includes information on the level, field, and profile of studies, obtained professional title, diploma number, verbally specified grade, and the date of the diploma exam. The certificate is accepted with the proviso that within 30 days from the date of diploma issuance, the candidate submits the diploma to the University Recruitment Office, under the penalty of being struck off the list of students.

Candidates for second-cycle nursing studies must provide the original or authenticated copy of the first-cycle nursing degree diploma.

IMPORTANT:
– Regardless of the possessed entitlements, a diploma issued abroad must be apostilled or legalized.
– In case of doubts about the recognition of a foreign diploma in Poland, an application can be submitted to NAWA for a written information on the matter.

– Passport or personal ID of a citizen of the EU, EFTA, the United Kingdom, or Northern Ireland or their family members residing in Poland.
– Permanent residence permit,
– Long-term resident EU card,
– Refugee status granted in Poland,
– Confirmation of temporary protection,
– confirmation of supplementary protection on the territory of Poland,
– Certificate confirming proficiency in Polish as a foreign language, issued by the State Commission for the Certification of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language, at least at the C1 language proficiency level.
– Valid Polish Card or decision on its issuance not older than 3 months.
– Decision regarding the determination of Polish origin issued by the embassy/consulate of the Republic of Poland.
– Confirmation of being a spouse, ancestor, or descendant of a citizen of the Republic of Poland residing on the territory of the Republic of Poland.
– Decision on a temporary residence permit - in connection with circumstances from Art. 159 para. 1 or Art. 186 para. 1 point 3 or 4 of the Act of December 12, 2013, on foreigners, along with the card.

Remaining Conditions
Foreign students are eligible to enroll in studies if:
– They have a visa, residence permit, or any other document allowing them to stay in Poland.
– They possess health insurance covering illness or accidents for the duration of their studies in Poland, or have the European Health Insurance Card. They can also join the National Health Fund immediately after starting their education.

Note!
Every student is required to have valid health insurance during their stay in Poland. Students from EU and EFTA countries are entitled to free use of specific medical services, provided they have the European Health Insurance Card or EKUZ Substitute Certificate. Students from non-EU and non-EFTA countries are advised to purchase private health insurance either in their home country or in Poland. In the absence of insurance, the use of medical services is payable. More information can be found on the National Health Fund's website.

Medical Certificate (applies only to candidates in the Nursing program) - A medical certificate from an occupational health service stating no contraindications to undertaking studies in the chosen field (issued based on a referral from the University). This applies exclusively to candidates in the Nursing and Emergency Medical Services programs.

Certificate of Proficiency in Polish:
A candidate with a foreign high school diploma, IB diploma, EB diploma, or a higher education diploma obtained abroad can enroll if they confirm proficiency in Polish at least at the B2 level. They can undertake studies in Polish if they are in one of the following situations:
– Completed a one-year preparatory course for studying in Polish, organized by an entity selected through a tender by the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) or previously designated by the minister responsible for higher education, at least at the B2 language proficiency level - [Certification - NAWA]
– Have a certificate confirming proficiency in Polish at least at the B2 language proficiency level, issued by the State Commission for the Certification of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language [link to another page]
– Have a high school diploma or higher education diploma issued upon completion of education in Polish in the education system of the Republic of Poland, with the proviso of Art. 326 para. 3 of the Higher Education and Science Act.

– Have a high school diploma or higher education diploma issued upon completion.

– Have the result of the Polish language exam on the IB or EB diploma.

NAWA Director's Decision - Individuals undertaking studies as NAWA scholarship recipients, upon receiving a positive scholarship decision, should provide a copy of the decision. The lack of a decision may result in the obligation to pay tuition fees if there is no other basis for undertaking studies for free.

Authenticated translation of all documents prepared in a language other than the language of study - For studies conducted in Polish, all documents prepared in a language other than Polish should be translated into Polish by:
– A sworn Polish translator (listed on the list of sworn translators of the Polish Ministry of Justice);
– A sworn translator from the EU (if there is an institution of sworn translators in a given country);
– The Polish consul responsible for the country where the document was issued;
– An accredited diplomatic representation or consular office of the country where the document was issued, located in Poland.

Translation can be done by a translation agency, but then it should be certified by a Polish diplomatic mission or a sworn translator. If the legality of the diploma is certified by an apostille, you should also translate this document.

Power of Attorney - A candidate who cannot personally enroll in studies can designate a representative who will submit the documents on their behalf.

Legalization is the confirmation of the formal compliance of a document with the laws of the place where it was issued or the authenticity of the signatures and seals on the document.

Foreign Education Documents - High school diplomas and university graduation diplomas obtained outside of Poland must be affixed with an apostille or legalized. Without this, they cannot be considered in the admission process to studies.

ATTENTION !

The above requirements are exempted only for the International Baccalaureate diploma and the European Baccalaureate certificate.

Apostille, in simple terms, is a certification that the certificate/diploma we use is authentic, allowing it to be used abroad. The clause, issued in the form of a stamp on the document or a separate document, should be sought in the country where the document was issued.

If the country in which the document was issued is a party to the Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents, drawn up in The Hague on October 5, 1961 (Journal of Laws of 2005, No. 112, item 938), then find out where you should go to obtain an apostille.

Legalization - if the country in which the document was issued is not a party to the Hague Convention, then legalization is carried out by the Polish consular office in that country. You must contact the relevant diplomatic office and find out how this process works.

Recognition of certificates - foreign certificates entitling one to apply for admission to studies in the country of issue that do not require any action before Polish authorities because they are recognized by law:

Issued by a school or educational institution recognized by a Member State, operating on the territory or in the education system of a Member State of the European Union, a Member State of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA)- European Economic Area, a Member State of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
This applies to high school diplomas obtained in the following countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Chile, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Spain, Ireland, Iceland, Israel, Japan, Canada, Korea, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Latvia, Malta, Mexico, Netherlands, Germany, Norway, New Zealand, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Sweden, Turkey, USA, Hungary, UK, Italy.

Covered by international agreements.

If your certificate does not qualify under the above requirements, you must apply for an administrative decision issued by the competent education curator confirming the right to apply for admission to studies.
